Quick setup
-----------
To install, copy the INFOCOM.APP file into the \APP\ directory using one of
Psion's serial links.
Install any infocom data files in an \IDF\ directory, preferably on an SDD,
and make sure they have an .IDF extension.
Select a game-file from the system screen to start it running. If there
is insufficient memory avaiable, the application will fail silently.
To save and restore, either type the filenames in the usual way or use
the menu commands. The file selector expects that files will be stored
in the \SAV\ directory using a .SAV extension. The appropriate file
selector can also be pulled up by using the appropriate menu item
after the save/restore command has been typed.
More details
------------
If required, choose one of the supplied font files, rename it to INFOCOM.FON
and copy it to the same directory as the Infocom application. If this font
file cannot be found, the system font will be used instead.
The supplied fonts are based on the Schumacher fonts supplied with release
5 of the X-window system. The technology used to extract these fonts is
based on BBC Basic programs and Psion's font compiler software.
Basically 5X8 is slightly narrower than the standard system font, while
6X8 is slightly wider. The 6X6, 5X6 and 4X6 fonts cram increasingly more
into the screen at the cost of readability. Even 6X6 is not recommended
for prolonged use.
If you have access to a copy of the font used by the Series3 Spreadsheet,
this can also be used with all output mapped to upper case; this is
preferable to 4X6. Alas, the only way I know to get hold of this font is to
carve it out of the spreadsheet application, which makes distributing it
slightly dubious.
